Sound
The main sound will of course be that of my nan, Peggy New, speaking, telling her story from during WW2. I think this should definitely be the main noise, obviously louder than any others I insert into the film. I do think the film could benefit from other sounds, diegetic sounds mostly, like the sirens and the sounds of rumbling in the distance. I think that these sounds could really add to the atmosphere and continuity of the short. To find these sounds I'll probably turn to YouTube and non-trademarked sound sites, there's a lot of non-copyright sounds available on YouTube, and if there are any websites that allow free downloads of appropriate sounds it would be great for the film.
Upon further research I have found the website OrangeFreeSounds which provides multiple samples of different sounds, including the diegetic sounds that I need - Air raids sirens, explosion, and the far off rumble of bombs. Here is the link to one of the sounds I downloaded from the site: http://www.orangefreesounds.com/distant-explosion-sounds/
The sound I am planning to use for the V1 rocket is from YouTube, it has no signs on copyright and captures the truly terrifying sound needed for the scene. Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1qsBGTkVSk
I also followed this tutorial on how to make the sound muffled, which I used on the sound of the siren when the characters went into the garden shelter. Here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ev47f99Ces
I'm currently debating whether to include a soundtrack or not, the issue of royalty free music generally means that the quality of music available online is quite low, and I know no musicians to preform a piece that I already know and think could be appropriate. It could be especially difficult to find a recording of 'We'll Meet Again' by Vera Lynn, which my nan told me the adults used to sing, that's not copyright. I'll have to look out for music that could fit with the different parts of the story, perhaps finding a chorus of people singing for the underground shelter, or something that puts the audience on the edge of their seat whilst Peggy is running because of the siren, although the siren alone may be enough to do this.
An update on progress of the singing: I have discovered a group called the Helen Vereker singers who have a recording on YouTube of them singing 'We'll Meet Again'. It's unaccompanied, has a mix of both men and women singing, a mix of ages, and the choir itself has no audition process, so it has a mix of professional and amateur singers throughout the group, perfect for the singing in the underground shelter.
Below is are screenshots of my correspondence with them, asking whether I could use their recording of their song:

They replied and after a few emails back and forth they permitted my use of the song in my film and said that I could share it on Youtube as long as it was Unlisted.
